Minnesota crew member erupts into flames during NASCAR race

A pit crew member from Cambridge, Minn. erupted into flames on Friday while changing a tire at the ToyotaCare 250 NASCAR XFINITY Series race at Richmond.

Anthony O'Brien was changing the right-rear tire for driver Brendan Gaghan when the flames enveloped him. The incident happened on lap 111 when Gaghan pitted.

O'Brien was able to disengage himself from the flaming car and was taken to the RIR Infield Care Center where he was reported awake and alert.

There were a total of three crew members injured in the fire. O'Brien and one other remain hospitalized, their conditions are currently unknown.

All crew members are required to wear fireproof suits and helmets.
