Minneapolis police investigating swastikas painted on buildings

Minneapolis police are investigating swastikas graffiti found on two buildings in north Minneapolis.

On Nov. 21, police received a call a red swastika had been painted on a garage on the 3700 block of Newton Avenue North, according to a press release. The woman also told police a red swastika had been painted on the vacant house next door.

Swastikas were the symbol of Nazi Germany. Under the fascist regime, swastikas became a symbol of hate and anti-Semitism, according to the Anti-Defamation League.

After police took pictures, the homeowner got rid of the graffiti on the garage. Community members came together to remove the graffiti off the vacant house.

Officers contacted the Jewish Community Relationship Council as well as superiors in the police department about the incident.
