Mary Jo Copeland to have private meeting with Pope

Local leader Mary Jo Copeland is getting the rare opportunity to meet with Pope Francis during his upcoming trip to the United States.

Copeland, along with her husband and Bishop Andrew Cozzens, will meet with the Pope Thursday, Sept. 24. at the Vatican Embassy in Washington, D.C.

During the meeting, Copeland, founder and executive director of Sharing and Caring Hands and Mary's Place in Minneapolis, plans to talk with Pope Francis about efforts to address poverty and homelessness in the Twin Cities.
