Body found in Savage, Minn. identified as missing youth basketball coach

- A man's body recovered from a retaining pond near Target on Highway 13 in Savage, Minn. on Friday was identified by medical examiners as 39-year-old Martise Windom, Savage police confirmed Sunday.

Windom was a youth basketball coach and father of two who had been missing from the Savage area since Nov. 7.  Volunteer searchers and police spent multiple days searching a wooded area behind Windom’s townhome, but found no signs of the 39-year-old.

Officials received a report of a body in a holding pond less than a mile away from Windom's home around 11 a.m. on Friday; the body had been in the water for quite some time, police said.

“He's a runner so he likes to go on trails,” Windom's godson Noah Gregory told Fox 9 in November. “And that's the number one thing, he would not leave his children, he's fought for them always making sure he was there for them."

Friends say along with being an entrepreneur, he coached a Lakeville youth basketball team.

The medical examiner has yet to release an official cause of death. The Savage Police Department along with the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension are investigating the incident.
