Manhunt ends, St. Louis Park shooter found dead in Jordan home

Police in the Twin Cities metro were searching for a man Tuesday who fired shots at police in St. Louis Park, Minn., triggering a manhunt that spanned at least 5 cities. David Michael Winters, 41, was considered armed and dangerous. 

Manhunt ends, Winters found dead

Jordan Police confirmed David Winters killed himself overnight around 1:15 a.m. in a home on the 500 Block of Syndicate St. in Jordan. He died of an apparent gunshot wound.

In Edina, a car with bullet holes matching the description of the one in the shootout was found in a garage, but no Winters. The final scene in this manhunt is in a neighborhood in Jordan, a house surrounded and much of the city on lock down including the police department and area schools.

SWAT search of Byerly's grocery store

The largest police presence was at the Byerly's grocery store in St. Louis Park, which was surrounded by officers from multiple agencies and later swept by a SWAT team. A store employee told Fox 9 that the upstairs of the building was placed on lockdown, and they were hearing of a person with a gun on the lower level.

A SWAT team entered the grocery store just after noon, followed by medics at about 12:45 p.m. Shortly after 1 p.m., the Byerly's employees and customers that were held inside the store during the lockdown were escorted out of the store and onto buses.
