Man killed after train collides with mobility scooter in Rochester, Minnesota

A 58-year-old man was killed after a train collided with his mobility scooter in Rochester, Minnesota Friday morning. 

According to the Rochester Police Department, the accident occurred at 7:50 a.m. at the train crossing at the intersection of 1st Avenue Northwest and Civic Center Drive Northwest. The man, identified as Ricky Thalacker of Rochester, was already deceased when officers arrived. 

Eyewitnesses told police the crossing gates were down and signals were operational when the accident occurred. 

Two roads near the scene were closed for several hours, but have since reopened. 

The Rochester Police Department, Canadian Pacific Railway and the Canadian Pacific Police Service are investigating the accident.
