WAITE PARK, Minn. (KMSP) - A 20-year-old man has been charged with unintentional murder in the second degree following a fatal shooting Saturday night in Waite Park, Minnesota.
Desmond Ormandy Barzey was also charged with multiple counts of assault in the second degree and with being a felon in possession of a firearm.
On Saturday afternoon, officers were dispatched to the St. Cloud Hospital in response to a man with a gunshot wound to the chest. He was pronounced dead minutes later.
Officers determined Barzey entered an apartment, displayed a firearm to several people and fired a single shot, striking 19-year-old Bobby Tercel Williams of St. Cloud. According to the complaint, Barzey told them to get on the ground and empty their pockets. At one point, Williams began to move toward Barzey, and Barzey shot him in the chest.
After a police chase reaching speeds of 100 mph, he was arrested in North Dakota. A Glock 9 mm was found in his car.
Barzey's criminal past includes aggravated robbery in the second degree in 2014.
