Man charged for peeping on girl at Kmart fitting room

A St. Paul man has been charged with interfering with privacy against a minor after peeping on an 8-year-old girl in a Kmart fitting room Sunday night.

St. Paul police were dispatched to Kmart on Maryland Avenue around 7 p.m. on Sept. 18. According to the police report, Bee Vang, 27, was “looking under the dividing wall into the room where she was changing. The defendant crawled under the wall and into her stall. The child started screaming.”

Vang then reportedly reached for the girl’s leg. The girl’s mother told police that she heard her daughter scream, "Help, help, there's a man in here, a man's in here."

The child was soon able to unlock her dressing room door and ran out to her mother. By that time, the defendant had crawled back under the dressing room wall and locked himself in the other room. Police knocked on that fitting room door several times, but Vang refused to open the door. Staff then brought a key to open the door, and police located the defendant in the fitting room.

In the fitting room, police found several condoms, condom wrappers, a razor blade, a Rice Krispie Bar and a Rice Krispie Bar inside of a condom.

Vang refused to identify himself for police and was subsequently booked in the Ramsey County Law Enforcement Center where staff identified him through fingerprints. According to the report, “the defendant has prior criminal convictions for a Violation of the Controlled Substance Law in the Fifth Degree, Theft of a Motor Vehicle and Domestic Assault.”

This is a felony level offense, and the maximum sentence is two years or $5,000 fine or both.
