"I feel like the one thing I thought the most is I'm gonna miss them,” student Alana Post said. "No matter how their day was going, you could just say hi to them and they would have the biggest smile on their face."

Investigators don't know exactly how it happened. And there were no witnesses. When first responders arrived at the crash site, Jake and Johnny had already passed away after being ejected from the vehicle.

Both 17-year-old Alex Hughes and 18-year-old Mason Kohlbeck were also in the pick-up and later transported to Hennepin County Medical Center with injuries.

"I woke up and I heard about what had happened. It's like incomprehensible," student Aubry Beckman said.

News of the tragedy at Lakeville South spread fast. Beckman and Maddie Koepp, both students at Lakeville North, knew they had to do something. Their classmate Alyssa Ettl was also killed in a car crash just two years ago, on the exact same day.

And in the days that followed, Lakeville South was always there to help.

"I think it is just important not only for South to have that, but for North to be able to know that we can somehow repay them for all the help that they have helped with us,” Beckman said.

Outside Lakeville South the grieving process is only just beginning. The bright blue rock that's always been a symbol of school pride is now a symbol of strength as this town of two schools once again comes together as one.

Efforts are underway to help the families of the victims. On Sunday night, students are caroling to collect donations for the families of all the boys involved in the accident. For information, contact
