UCLA shooter's cat soon up for adoption

- Jiffy, the cat of the UCLA shooter, could soon be available for adoption.

Los Angeles Police found an instructional note on Mainak Sarkar's body to check on his cat. Sarkar took his own life after shooting a professor at UCLA. Police found Jiffy at Sarkar's St. Paul apartment, where they also found a so-called “kill list.” Sarkar is also the suspect in the shooting of his estranged wife, Ashley Hasti, in Brooklyn Park.

Since the shootings, the cat went into the care of St. Paul Animal Control. An official there says by the end of this week, Jiffy will be transferred to Rescued Pets Are Wonderful (RPAW), which is a no-kill animal rescue organization.

RPAW places cats and dogs in a foster home until they are placed in a permanent adoptive home. Animal Control says Jiffy is experiencing a little shelter stress from the transition, but is otherwise healthy and warming up to people.
