Auditor: U needs to better report patient medical issues in drug studies

The Minnesota Legislative auditor says researchers at the University of Minnesota need to do a better job of reporting medical problems that may be related to drug studies.

The auditor looked at industry sponsored research within the school's Department of Psychiatry. The report is a follow up to the death of a Dan Markingson, a research participant who committed suicide.

The auditor did not find any other study related deaths but it did find research doctors were slow to report medical issues that could be connected to drug trials.

The University says it's taking steps to address the concerns.
