Impaired driving suspected in crash that killed mother of 3

35-year-old Lindsay Cardinal had just finished running errands when she was struck and killed by another vehicle Tuesday evening on Highway 23 in Foley, Minnesota.

State patrol said 29-year-old Kevin Couch of Milaca crashed into Cardinal head-on and is suspected to have been under the influence of alcohol, drugs or both.

“How do you explain to them because of someone’s foolish act you don’t get to have your mom?” asked Stephanie Hurt, Lindsay Cardinal’s best friend.

Couch has a long list of priors including burglary and 4th degree DWI in 2006, a separate DWI conviction in 2009, domestic assault and violating a no contact order.

Cardinal’s children, 5-year-old Lillian and 4-year-old Matt, both endured broken bones. The other, a 1-year-old, will be in a body cast for some time. All four were wearing seatbelts.

Couch suffered life-threatening injuries in the crash.
