MINNEAPOLIS (KMSP) - State Representative Ilhan Omar (DFL) and Jennifer Zielinski (R) will face off in the race for Keith Ellison's seat in Minnesota's 5th Congressional District.
A member of the Minnesota House of Representatives, Ilhan Omar was first elected to the chamber in 2016. She became the first Somali-American Muslim legislator elected to office in the U.S. Omar was born in Mogadishu and came to the U.S. in 1995 at age 14.
Omar received 48 percent of the vote followed by Margaret Anderson Kelliher and Patricia Torres Ray with 30 percent.
Jennifer Zielinski, the GOP-endorsed candidate, was a candidate for District 6 representative on the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board. Zielinski received 56 percent of the vote followed by Christopher Chamberlin with 32 percent.
