I-694 wreck involving wrong-way driver kills 1, injures 6

One person is dead and six hospitalized after a wrong-way driver struck two cars on westbound Interstate 694 just east of Highway 65 this morning.

According to the State Patrol, just after 3 a.m., a Saturn Vue was driving east in the westbound lanes of 694. The Vue struck a westbound Ford Fusion, then struck a Lincoln Navigator. All three vehicles were totaled.

The driver of the Vue was killed. He was in the car by himself. There were two people in the Fusion and four in the Navigator, and all six were hospitalized, one with serious injuries.

Whether alcohol was a factor hasn't yet been determined.

Only one individual in the crash has been identified, 38-year-old Michael B. Wycoff of Winter Park, Fla., a passenger in the Fusion. He suffered non-life threatening injuries.
