For French expatriates, news of yet another terror attack in their home country has been greeted with both shock and resolve.

“That's what they're doing through fear, trying to divide all of us, so that they have a bigger power on us,” said Justine Temke, of Faribault.

Temke is from Nice, France and she told Fox 9 her father lives just a mile from the attack site, where at least 84 people died.

“I was kind of feeling that my phone was vibrating a little bit, so I checked on it, and somebody just said prayers for your dad,” Temke said.  “I saw something in my client's face. And I said ‘is something happening in France?’ He just showed me his phone and said 'I'm sorry.' I just run out and tried to reach my dad, but couldn't for hours."

She finally reached her father, who is safe.  But during that wait, her thoughts went back to Paris, where last November her best friends were inside the Bataclan nightclub. Terrorists struck during a series of attacks that killed 147 people.

“They were there. She hid sort of upstairs, and he took a bullet in the back. And I think that's why yesterday also kind of brought that thing of like, that this is so real. It's so real.”

She said the terrorists are trying to strike at the heart of the French values of liberte, eaglite and fraternite: liberty, equality,  and brotherhood.  Temke believes the French people should send a message to the terrorists by enjoying their daily lives.

“You're not stopping us from living,” Temke said. “Then, you would win.”
