Heavy rains soak parts of the state with more likely on the way

- Plenty of water is now trying to permeate into the Earth as hefty rains soaked the area Sunday & Monday.  Sunday morning’s rains were very isolated and short lived, but they packed a punch dropping more than 4 inches over the Red Wing area in just a couple hours.  Meanwhile, widespread rain late Sunday and early Monday dropped several inches of water across parts of central and eastern Minnesota, as well as western Wisconsin.  Check out some of the totals across the area…

2 day totals of nearly 5 inches from parts of the northeast metro, through western Wisconsin and down the Mississippi river valley.  Meanwhile, it took just a few hours to drop 1 to 4 inches of water on central Minnesota and parts of the metro.  While the rain was needed in many cases, nobody needs that much of it that quickly… and unfortunately more heavy rain could be on the way.  Our next storm moves in on Tuesday with severe weather opportunities for central and southern Minnesota.  But it’s the heavy rain potential that could overshadow any severe weather we get with the potential for several more inches of rain over saturated ground.
