Hazeltine prepares for Ryder Cup in 2016

CHASKA, Minn. (KMSP) – If ever there was a course special enough for the Ryder Cup, it's Hazeltine. Tucked into the hills outside of Chaska, it has everything you would expect for a world class event

"The Ryder Cup is the largest golf event in the world," said Jeff Hintz. Hintz is the man behind the transformation that will turn these fields into something resembling a giant party.

"It's like a college football game. You know you got your home team and golf." Hintz said. "You combine it together and it gets pretty cool."

But before the fun can start in 2016, the work must be done. In the next 15 months, over 100 tents will be built along with hundreds of bleachers at 14 different holes. It's a task almost as daunting as the course.

Hazeltine is no stranger to big time events; it recently hosted the PGA Championship in both 2002 and 2009. But the Ryder Cup will be different with more than 250,000 people expected to attend.

The Ryder Cup is a men's golf competition between teams from both Europe and the United States. The next Ryder Cup will be held from September 27 – October 2, 2016.
