Green Line train hits pedestrian, leaving him hospitalized

Shortly after 10 p.m. last night, a pedestrian was struck by a Green Line train near the intersection of Lexington Parkway and University Avenue in St. Paul.

Metro Transit spokesperson Howie Padilla says the man was "certainly in an area where we don't encourage people to be," but couldn't elaborate further when reached for comment this afternoon.

The Star Tribune reports that the man was standing by or crossing the tracks illegally.

"There are rules around those tracks for everybody's safety," Padilla says, adding that at last check the man was in stable condition at the hospital.

Service was delayed for under half an hour.
