Family of St. Cloud mall attack suspect releases statement

The family of the Dahir Adan, the suspect in the St. Cloud mall attack, held a funeral for their son and released a statement on Friday regarding the investigation.

St. Cloud police say on Sept. 17, Adan stabbed 10 people in the Crossroads Center Mall before an off-duty police officer shot and killed him.

The family attorney released the following statement from Adan's family:

"Today we buried our son, Dahir Adan. His funeral was attended by his family, friends and members of the community. Dahir Adan was a son, a brother and a grandchild. Not only was he a bright and hardworking young man, but he also achieved a lot during his short life. He will be missed dearly by his family, friends and all those who knew him in the St. Cloud community.

As we continue to express our deepest sympathy and condolences to all those injured and pray for their speedy recovery, we demand a timely, transparent and full investigation of the circumstances surrounding the incident that led to the death of our son, Dahir Adan. As a family, we deserve to know the truth about his tragic death. We also believe that the St. Cloud community and, indeed, Minnesotans deserve the truth as well.

As they conduct their investigation, we demand and expect from the law enforcement agencies to thoroughly gather and preserve all the evidence relating to this incident including the relevant evidence at the site of the incident both electronic and otherwise.

As we requested previously, we urge all not to rush to judgement or conclusions until all the facts are known. We continue to ask everyone to respect our privacy during this difficult time. We will make further statements as more facts about the incident become available."
