Fallen WWII soldier from Minnesota honored

A Minnesotan who died during World War II was honored at the University of Minnesota as part of POW/MIA remembrance.

Staff Sergeant Gerald Jacobsen, now resting in Minnesota, was missing in action for more than seven decades. Fox 9 has carefully followed Jacobsen’s journey home.

An independent researcher thought Jacobsen may have been buried in a grave for an “unknown” soldier in Normandy, France. Last November, the grave was exhumed and DNA confirmed Jacobsen was the “unknown” soldier. In June, Jacobsen came home and received a proper burial at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery.
