Energy lineman injured while restoring power near Becker, Minn.

A Connexus Energy lineman suffered burns Sunday while restoring power near Becker, Minnesota. He was airlifted to Hennepin County Medical Center Burn Unit and remains in the intensive care unit.

Connexus Energy said Matt Stachowski as extensive injuries to his right hand and legs after he made electrical contact while working on storm cleanup. According to his wife Melissa, doctors are amazed he is alive and how well he is doing. He is expected to remain in hospital for several weeks.

Stachowski is 35 years old, married with two children. He has been employed with Connexus Energy for 15 years.

Energy line workers were called out Sunday morning to restore power to more than 12,000 customers. Stachowski was working on storm cleanup and clearing downed lines and poles off the road when the contact occurred near 77th St. and County Road 53, northwest of Becker.

As of Sunday afternoon, 2,000 customers were still without power. Crews will work will around the clock until everyone’s power is restored.

An investigation is underway to determine exactly what happened.
