Couple identified in Apple Valley stabbing that left man dead, female injured

- Officials have identified the Burnsville couple involved in a domestic assault that left one man dead and one woman with stab wounds in Apple Valley early Monday, Sept. 14.

Officers responded to a report of a vehicle off the roadway at Pilot Knob and Ellice Avenue around 3:50 a.m. Upon arrival, officers discovered Alexander Mooney, 26, and Michelle Armstrong 25, in the back yard of a residence at 13550 Everest Avenue.

Officers confronted Mooney, who was armed with a knife, according to a press release. After disarming him, officers discovered he had a self-inflicted knife wound.

Mooney subsequently died of his injuries at the scene after emergency personnel rendered aid.  Armstrong suffered multiple knife wounds and was taken to Regions Hospital in critical condition. She is expected to make a full recovery, police said Thursday.

“Our investigation revealed that this incident was a violent ending to a domestic assault,” Apple Valley Police Captain Nick Francis said in a press release.

Francis warned anyone in a romantic relationship to be aware of the potential for increased violence or dangers from their partners and to report any concerns to the police or someone they trust.
