Car2Go suspends service in Twin Cities starting Dec. 31

Car sharing service Car2Go says it is leaving the Twin Cities, citing a tax rate that is “unduly high.”

Car2Go currently has hundreds of cars and thousands of members between Minneapolis and St. Paul, Minnesota. The service allows users to rent their cars by the minute, hour or day.

"I use it to get to the airport, I use it to get to the state fair, really anywhere parking would be a challenge I use car2go because they usually have something set up," said Car2Go user Ben Kwan .

Kwan is among a number of dedicated users who say they found about Car2Go’s departure through an email sent out this past week to members.

In the email, Car2Go explained their decision, saying in part, “the Twin Cities is one of the most expensive places in North America to operate our service."

Car2Go’s last day in the Twin Cities will be December 31.
