17-year-old dies in fiery car crash in Maple Grove

A 17-year-old boy has died after a fiery car crash into a bridge embankment on eastbound Highway 610 and Maple Grove Parkway.

State Patrol officials identified the driver as 17-year-old Matthew Gregory Jasicki of Brooklyn Park. He was the only person in the car.

Just before 10 p.m. on Friday, the car was going eastbound on 610 at high speeds when it lost control and hit the right bridge embankment at Maple Grove Parkway, according to the crash report.

It is unknown whether or not Jasicki was wearing a seatbelt.

For several hours, emergency crews shut down the road between I-94 and Maple Grove Pkwy as well as the ramp from EB 94 to EB 610.

The Jasicki family declined to speak on-camera, but released a statement concerning Jasicki's death:

Our family is in shock over this tragic loss. Matthew was a strong, smart, outgoing young man. He excelled in sports and loved camping, four wheeling, and just being outdoors with his family. He had a very bright future ahead of him. His spark and passion was put out far too soon . We do not know all of the circumstances around this horrible accident. Matthew did struggle with the burden of depression. We want to encourage anyone facing this disease, or if you know someone who is, to please seek help. Do not suffer in silence. We have a lot facing us in the days, months, and even years to come. We ask that you please respect our privacy, allow our family, and friends to heal and process this sudden, and tragic loss, of a wonderful young man taken from us too soon.

Any outstanding factors that may have caused the accident are still under investigation.
