Businesses evacuated for gas line break near 50th and France

- Update (10:53 a.m.) - The damaged gas line has been clamped. The area is safe and most of the affected area is back open to pedestrians and vehicles. A small portion of Market Street remains closed. 

Businesses and homes near 50th and France in Edina, Minnesota are being evacuated after contractors hit a gas line in the area. 

The contractors were working on the Market Street project at 50th and France when they struck the gas line. Market Street is closed and all businesses in the surrounding block are closed until repairs can be made. 50th Street and France Avenue remains open to through traffic. 

CenterPoint Energy and the Edina Fire Department clamped the gas line shortly before 11 a.m. It will be permanently repaired on Monday afternoon. 

Authorities say the area is safe and access has been mostly restored. A small portion of Market Street will remain closed for the time being.
