Body of 43-year-old swimmer recovered from Lake Harriet

Hennepin County sheriff's office dive crews recovered the body of a 43-year-old man from Lake Harriet in south Minneapolis early Monday morning. He went under around 6:30 p.m. on Sunday and crews pulled the body just after 2 a.m.

The man was at the lake with his family when he went under near a floating dock on the north side of the lake. When he didn’t come back up, a family member and a witness called 911 and crews searched for two hours but suspended their search due to lightning. Divers went back in the water around 9:45 p.m.

The Hennepin County medical examiner will release the victim's name.

The swimming area drops off quickly at Lake Harriet, and crews told Fox 9 that the missing man is not a good swimmer.
