Bicyclist clinging to life after mysterious accident in Vadnais Heights

A Twin Cities bicyclist is clinging to life in St. Paul after an accident last week. But there are lots of questions surrounding what caused him to crash as the sheriff's department continues an open investigation.

The family has been struggling for nearly a week since the accident, and is now faced with taking their loved one off life support.

Bob Prudhomme is described by family and friends as an avid biker and extremely safety conscious. He's a member of the Twin Cities Bike Club, and according to the president of that club he took part in a ride last Friday morning at Sucker Creek Park in Vadnais Heights.

Later that afternoon it appears Prudhomme was riding back to the park when a motorist saw him go off the road and fall. Initially, it was thought he had a stroke causing him to crash. But once at Regions Hospital, the club president said doctors determined he may have been struck by something because of a blunt force trauma to the back of his head.

It has since been determined he somehow got back up on his bike and then had a stroke causing his crash. The Ramsey County Sheriff's Office has opened an investigation to determine if this was some sort of hit and run or something of that nature, or if it was indeed purely a medical accident.

In the meantime, family is finding a slight bit of comfort in the fact that Prudhomme is an organ donor. They held a brief ceremony at his bedside on Thursday and expect to take him off life support within the next 24 hours.

Family says they are grateful for all the thoughts and prayers being sent their way during this incredibly difficult time.
