Baseball, softball and 4 other sports added to 2020 Olympics

International Olympic Committee

The International Olympic Committee announced baseball, softball, karate, skateboard and sports climbing will be included in the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.

Baseball and softball were Olympic sports until 2008, but were eliminated after the Beijing games. The two sports will count as one since it was a combined bid by the two sport organizations.

All five sports were approved unanimously by the International Olympic Committee members.

According to the International Olympic Committee, the new sports will add 18 events and 474 athletes to the games.
