ST. PAUL, Minn. (KMSP) - Authorities have identified the woman officers arrested in connection to the death of a man who was trying to break up a fight in St. Paul over the weekend.
St. Paul police say 49-year-old Mia Kendrick is the woman they arrested Sunday night in connection with the murder of 38-year-old Dewahn Darnell Robinson Littles.
Kendrick, who also goes by the name Lacheia Thompson, has been booked for aiding and abetting in Little’s murder.
Fox 9 captured on video part of Kendrick's arrest outside of St. Paul police headquarters Sunday night.
Littles, a hair shop owner, husband and father of four, is described by family as an active member of the community who lived for putting a smile on people's faces.
Family members say Littles was killed near his Dale Street home, where two women were fighting. One of them had a gun, and in the midst of his attempt to keep the peace and break up the fight, one of the women shot him in the chest.
“I've lost just as a part of Dewahn as my husband has,” said Sheryl Robinson, Littles' step-mother. “I watched him grow up, I watched his babies be born, and he was a sweet young man.”
Littles is the city's 18th murder victim so far this year.
“I just wish everybody would just come together and find some peace in their hearts to change these things that we're going through,” said Robinson. “You know? Put down the guns!”
Less than 24 hours after Littles was killed, St. Paul saw its 19th homicide. Another man, 31-year-old Brandon Christopher Roberts, was shot and killed near Johnny Baby's on University Avenue Sunday morning.
Last year St. Paul had 19 murders, a number that was already up from 16 murders in 2015.
Police say both weekend shootings remain under active investigation.
