Area rivers still on the rise

- After a summers worth of heavy rain in just 48 hours’ time, rivers across the region are still rising.  That’s what can be so deceiving about flooding is it takes A LOT of time to start and even longer to finish.  One heavy rain event can make area rivers stay swollen for weeks or even months.  A similar situation is ongoing across the state.  All 3 major rivers and many tributaries have been on the rise since Monday with crests for many not expected until next week… AND that’s if we don’t get any more rain, which there is more in the forecast for the weekend.  So despite the fact that the heavy rain is long been over, you can still see the effects.  The St. Croix at Grantsburg actually set a new record high on Wednesday with all of that water flowing downstream.  Here are the latest charts on river levels from across the area showing water height and potential cresting dates.  The map is where each measurement is located AND the rainfall totals from the big event…
