Lifetime Fitness serial robber charged, still at large

Ronald Guy is suspected of stealing items from fitness clubs around the Metro.

- A serial robber accused of stealing credit cards from the lockers at fitness clubs in several Twin Cities suburbs is still on the loose after he was arrested then released from jail before the charges were filed.

Ronald Guy, 38, of Minneapolis was arrested on Feb. 16 in connection with numerous credit card thefts from men’s locker rooms at LA Fitness and Lifetime Fitness locations in Eden Prairie, Plymouth, Hopkins, Maple Grove, Champlin and Woodbury.

Guy had at least eight different victims between October and February, according to the criminal complaint. In each case, Guy would break into the lockers at the gym and steal the victims’ wallets. He would then use their credit cards at nearby Targets, Best Buys and other stores, often racking up more than $1,000 in purchases.

Guy has since been charged with identity theft, the maximum sentence of which is up to 20 years in prison.

However, Guy was released from jail because the charges were filed after the 36-hour window in which a suspect can be held without being charged. There is currently a warrant out for his arrest, but police have been unable to locate him.

An attorney representing Ronnie Guy tells Fox 9 they did not know that he was formally charged in the case and that there was now an outstanding warrant for his arrest. Guy plans to handle the matter on Friday. He denies all charges and says he is only guilty of looking like the suspect in the case.
