91-year-old man victim of possible hit-and-run in Douglas Co.

A 91-year-old man was the victim of a possible hit-and-run accident in northern Minnesota.

The Douglas County sheriff’s office received a 911 call that reported an elderly man was laying in the road and bleeding from the head on South Central Avenue in Brandon at approximately 9:50 p.m. Tuesday. The caller was able to swerve to avoid hitting the man. When deputies arrived, they determined that the victim’s injuries were consistent to being struck by a vehicle.

The victim, Dale Carol Burkey, was transported to the Douglas County Hospital where he was treated for his injuries.

Deputies spoke with Burkey about the incident. He told police that he had left the Brandon Assisted Living Facility and was walking when he fell in the roadway. He said he was struck by a vehicle after falling.

Police are searching for a car that was in the area at the time of the incident. They believe the driver or occupants could have important information regarding the incident. The car was described as a “clean” newer white sedan, possibly a Chevrolet Malibu or a car with a similar body style.

Burkey remains hospitalized and the extent of his injuries are unknown at this time.

Anyone with information about the incident or the vehicle described is asked to call the Douglas County sheriff’s office.
