8-year-old girl on bike dies in Albert Lea crash

An 8-year-old girl, who was riding her bike, died after crashing with a car in Albert Lea, Minn., according to Albert Lea Police Department. Officers responded to the call of a crash between a car and bike just after 11:30 a.m. on Saturday.

The car was driven by a 70-year-old Albert Lea man. The girl, identified by family as Sophie Stultz, is also from Albert Lea. Emergency crews on scene attempted to save the girl's life, but she later succumbed to her injuries at a hospital.

The crash is still under investigation.

The Stultz family issued a statement on Sunday about the accident: 

“We are deeply saddened at the loss of our little girl and are relying on our faith, family, friends and the community for strength in moving forward at this time. Sophie was a special girl who could light up the room with her smile. She has been and will continue to be a shining light in our lives and in the lives of many others. We thank those who influenced her for good during her life."
