8-year-old girl dies after 'medical emergency' at Wayzata Bay

WAYZATA, Minn. (KMSP) - An 8-year-old girl has passed away after emergency crews responded to a "medical emergency call" at Wayzata Bay on Lake Minnetonka Sunday.

According to the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office, a 9-1-1 caller reported that the young girl was unresponsive around 5 p.m.  She was transported to Hennepin County Medical Center where she died.

Sources close to the investigation said Monday they are investigating potential carbon monoxide poisoning in connection to her death, but the Hennepin County medical examiner's office has not yet released an official cause of death.

Plymouth Police, Orono Police, Minnesota State Patrol, Wayzata Police and Fire also responded to the scene. The Hennepin County sheriff's office is investigating.
