Lakeland man creates art through fireworks

- Drew Lausman is making a lot of noise with his art, literally. He is taking firecrackers, dipping them in paint, and then letting them blow. It's called "Explosionism," a name and a form of art he coined himself.

"I make art with fireworks," says Lausman. "I still blow myself away sometimes. I've done 200 paintings in four years."

Lausman's inspiration for the idea of exploding art came from his brother who died 6 years ago at the age of 24.

"He had left me thousands of firecrackers in a box," Lausman mentioned. "One of the last things he said to me is that I needed to do something with my art."

Lausman took those words to heart. He now has his own art studio in downtown Lakeland, and he sells his creations online.

"Everyone likes playing with fireworks," Lausman says. However, it's not all fun and games. Creating art with fireworks can be a dangerous craft.

"When I'm doing multiple explosions, I'll have parts of the firecracker blow up, basically on my leg, or on my jeans," he says.
