BLUE EARTH, Minn. (KMSP) - The 55-foot Jolly Green Giant statue in Blue Earth, Minnesota is sporting some facial hair now that "Movember" is underway.
Crews installed an appropriately large mustache on the enormous statue Thursday as the company Green Giant begins its celebration of “Movember" during the month of November.
The “Movember Foundation” raises money and awareness for prostate cancer, testicular cancer, mental health and suicide prevention. People commonly celebrate the month by growing out their facial hair.
According to a release from Green Giant, the giant’s mustache weighs 15 pounds and measures over 4 feet long. Green Giant expects it would take the average man eight years to grow a mustache of equivalent length.
"Family has always been at the heart of the Green Giant brand," said Jordan Greenberg, vice president & general manager of Green Giant. "Partnering with the Movember Foundation to leverage the Green Giant’s likeness to support young men feels like a natural fit. We hope that the Green Giant's new mustache inspires awareness around The Movember Foundation's mission and men's health issues."
In addition to the statue’s new facial hair, Green Giant will change its logo to feature a new mustache style each week during November to raise awareness for the Movember Foundation.
