BROOKLYN PARK, Minn. (KMSP) - A Brooklyn Park police officer’s gun was fired during a struggle with a driver who was the subject of an overnight noise complaint. According to the Hennepin County sheriff’s office, Brooklyn Park police responded to a loud music complaint from neighbors on the 9600 block of Scott Lane N. around 12:20 a.m. Sunday.
Responding officers found the driver had multiple warrants for his arrest. During the course of arrest, 25-year-old Lance Carr assaulted the officer, and the officer’s gun was fired. Neither the officer nor the driver was struck, but both were taken to an area hospital for evaluation.
What remains unclear is how the firearm went off. According to the Hennepin County booking report, Carr is facing attempted murder and fourth-degree assault charges.
The officer's name is not being released at this time. Carr remains in custody without bail.
