4 killed, 3 seriously injured in icy Aitkin County crash

- Four people were killed and three others were seriously injured in a two-vehicle crash on an icy highway in Aitkin County late Saturday afternoon.

A Mazda Tribute traveling southbound on Highway 65 lost control on the snowy road and slid sideways into the northbound lane, where it was hit by a Chevrolet Suburban around 3 p.m. The driver and all three passengers in the Mazda were killed in the crash.

Sarah Sample, 22, Nicholas Meyer, 26, and Kevin Meyer, 25, were in the other vehicle and were taken to the hospital with serious injuries. 22-year-old Amanda Christiansen suffered non-life threatening injuries and two-year-old Jackson Sample escaped with no apparent injuries. All five were from McGregor, Minn. 

State Patrol officials confirmed 45-year-old Chris Moe, 40-year-old Rae Anne Moe, 12-year-old Anthony Moe and 14-year-old Samatha Anne Moe were killed.

The Minnesota State Patrol is investigating the crash.

In addition to the fatal accident., there were 204 crashes, 20 with injuries, and 224 vehicle off-roads and spin outs reported statewide on Saturday in the wake of an early morning snowfall, according to State Patrol officials.
