St. Paul police arrest 2 in fatal drive-by shooting on Earl Street Bridge

- St. Paul police have arrested two young men in connection with the fatal shooting of Emmett Lee Shaw, 24, on the Earl Street Bridge on Oct. 15. It was one of three murders that occurred over a five day period in St. Paul.

Officers arrived at the Earl Street Bridge north of Ross Ave. around 7 p.m. and found Shaw, who had been shot. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A witness told police he was walking with Shaw and two others on the Earl Street Bridge north of Ross Avenue around 7 p.m.  when a black car with three people inside passed them. The car turned around, came back onto the bridge and one of the passengers began shooting at the group.

Upon arrival police found Shaw with a gunshot wound to the back. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

Police arrested Dametrius Ratheal Moore, 23, for his involvement in the shooting. Moore admitted to police he drove the vehicle during the shooting, according to the criminal complaint. Moore is being charged with second degree murder, four counts of drive-by shooting and four counts of second degree assault.

Police also arrested 21-year-old Tyree Donta Bercham, whose last name is spelled Beecham on some records. Bercham was reportedly one of the passengers of the vehicle during the shooting.

Both Bercham and Moore told police Dearies Calvin Collins, 21, was the third passenger in the car and claimed he fired the shots out the window at Shaw and his companions. They claimed they did not know Collins was going to shoot at the group on the bridge.

According to the criminal complaint, Shaw was reportedly a high-ranking member of the Eastside Boys Gang, along with several other people on the bridge. Both Bercham and Moore denied any gang rivalry issues with the Eastside Boys.

Bercham has not yet been charged for his involvement in the incident. A case against Dearies Calvin Collins has not yet been presented to the Ramsey County Attorney’s Office.
