3 St. Paul robbery suspects arrested, 4th shot by victim with permit to carry

St. Paul police have arrested 3 teenagers in connection with a robbery that left a fourth teen robbery suspect dead the night of July 31. According to investigators, the 4 teens tried to rob 2 adults in the area of Summit Avenue and Mississippi River Boulevard at approximately 10:30 p.m. that night.

One of the teens, wearing a mask and gloves, pulled a gun on the victims. One of the robbery victims, who has a valid permit to carry, drew his own gun and shot the suspect. The robbery victim immediately called police and rendered first aid while the other 3 suspects fled.

Family members identified the man shot and killed by the victim as 16-year-old Lavauntai Broadbent of West St. Paul. He died of his injuries at the scene.

The 3 teenagers who ran were arrested for robbery throughout the weekend. Two of the suspects live in St. Paul, and the other is from an east metro suburb. The robbery victims, who are not being identified, are fully cooperating with police.
