Twin Cities Volkswagen Club honors cancer victim with family memorial cruise

The Twin Cities Volkswagen Club banned together on Saturday to honor one of their biggest enthusiasts after he passed away from an 11-month battle with prostate cancer.

Kirk Reeder, 51, passed away after a courageous battle with metastatic prostate cancer, which doctors discovered just 11 months before he died.

Reeder loved all types of Volkswagen vehicles, so his family decided one way to honor him would be to do a memorial cruise with each one of his Volkswagens with family members driving each one, while his friends from the Twin Cities Volkswagen Club escorted them along the way. The cruise started in Champlin, traveled to St. Croix, Wisc. and ended in Golden Valley at New Bohemia, which donated $3 for every Firebreck beer they sold Saturday.

Funds raised from the event will be donated to other families who are experiencing the same hardship as the Reeder family.

"Knowing that we can impact a family dealing with the same hardship, I would just love that and I know he would be so proud," Kirk’s daughter, Laure’n Dordal said.
