Hikers find body in Mendota Heights nature preserve

- UPDATE: The Hennepin County Medical Examiner's office says the body of a dead man found by hikers in Mendota Heights has been identified as 35-year-old Joseph Hernandez of West St. Paul.

According to the Medical Examiner, the date of death was 2 p.m. Nov. 24, and the cause of death is pending an investigation.

Hernandez was last seen by his girlfriend at the Mendota Heights Motel. He was reported missing on Nov. 7.

Hikers found a body of an adult man while walking in the north side of the Dodge Nature Center, according to Mendota Heights police. The marsh area is south of Highway 110 and is near Friendly Marsh Park.

Officers first received the call of the found body at 2:32 p.m.

Officials are uncertain how long the body had been there.

The case is still under investigation.

Mendota Heights police have been searching for a 35-year-old Joey Hernandez, who went missing earlier this month.
