BLOOMINGTON, Minn. (KMSP) - Houses were evacuated near Nicollet Avenue and West 96th Street in Bloomington following a major gas leak Thursday morning. Residents in need of temporary shelter were directed to Fire Station 1.
The gas leak was reported at about 9:30 a.m. Thursday. Centerpoint Energy crews were monitoring gas levels in the air as the natural gas dispersed and drifting to the northeast. Centerpoint said a valve malfunctioned on a gas line.
One apartment building and two blocks of homes were evacuated. School remained in session at nearby Kennedy High School, which didn't register a gas reading.
All residents returned home and the street reopened by 12 p.m.
