CANNON FALLS, Minn. (KMSP) - Cannon Falls police say the attempted abduction of a 10-year-old girl at a park in Cannon Falls, Minnesota on Sunday did not occur.
Police say the victim later acknowledged the incident at Hannah's Bend Park did not take place as reported and there was no abduction attempt.
On Tuesday, Cannon Falls police asked the public for help locating a suspect in an attempted abduction. The suspect had allegedly grabbed the 10-year-old girl and carried her while running across the park. The girl was able to get away after the man put her down to catch his breath.
According to a statement, the incident was initially reported as an assault and in a follow-up interview, police learned it was an attempted abduction.
Police are still asking the public to be compassionate toward the child involved in the incident.
"There was a tremendous outpouring of compassion from our community and the Cannon Falls Police Department asks people to not lose that compassion. It's important to remember that there is still a 10-year-old girl that we want to avoid having traumatized further because of what happened," Cannon Falls police said in a statement.
