BCA investigates shooting of suicidal man by Chisago County SWAT

- The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is investigating the use of force by Chisago County SWAT officers involved in the shooting of a suicidal man in Almelund, Minn. early Sunday afternoon.

According to the Chisago County sheriff’s office, deputies were called to a home on Maple Lane at 1:14 p.m. to help a suicidal man. The Chisago County Multi-Jurisdictional SWAT Team responded to assist deputies, and a member of the SWAT Team shot the man.

The man was taken to Regions Hospital in St. Paul. His condition has not been released.

Once the investigation is complete, the BCA will turn its findings over to the Chisago County Attorney’s Office for review.

- Displaying extreme mood swings.

What you can do

If you believe someone is at risk of suicide:

- Ask them if they are thinking about killing themselves. (This will not put the idea into their heads, or make it more likely that they will attempt suicide.)

- Call the U.S. National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 800-273-TALK (8255).

- Take the person to an emergency room or seek help from a medical or mental health professional.

- Remove any objects that could be used in a suicide attempt.

- If possible, do not leave the person alone.
