ISANTI, Minn. (KMSP) - Matt Olson has returned home to Isanti after spending months in the hospital and rehabilitation centers. Back in February, Olson was paralyzed during a game with his junior hockey team in Chicago. Olson played for Totino Grace in high school.
His parents released this statement,
On February 21st this year, our son Matt was injured after he slammed into the boards during a junior league hockey game in Chicago. The spinal injury left him paralyzed from the chest down. Since his injury he has received wonderful care, first in Illinois, then here in Minnesota, most recently at the Courage Kenny Rehabilitation Institute in Golden Valley.
Today, Wednesday, September 7th, Matt was discharged from Courage Kenny and moved back home with us in Isanti. He will continue outpatient therapy.
Our family would like to thank all the medical staff and therapists who have worked with Matt over the last six months and all the people that have supported our family. Matt is excited to be back home and is looking forward to this next chapter in his life.
