ST. JOSEPH, Minn. (KMSP) - For almost 27 years, the church bells in St. Joseph have tolled marking the passage of time. Until Saturday, every hour since October 22, 1989 came without an answer about the whereabouts of Jacob Wetterling.
“It’s about time. It’s about time,” said Donna Geislinger, who lives in St. Joseph. “I’m glad it’s done. We can put closure on it.”
The Wetterlings were on the minds of many parishioners attending Saturday evening mass at St. Joseph Catholic Church. They offered prayers for a family’s unspeakable loss and for strength for what’s to come.
“To have something close like this now, it’s a bad thing it ended up this way, but at least it’s peace for the family now,” said Roy Forney, a St. Joseph residents.
Others in St. Joseph expressed a mixture of sadness and even relief, that answers in this case have finally come.
