GRAND RAPIDS, Minn. (FOX 9) - A 20-year-old woman was fatally stabbed at an elementary school playground in Grand Rapids, Minnesota Tuesday night.
At 9:45 p.m., police officers were dispatched to Murphy Elentary School on a report of a stabbing, according to the Grand Rapids Police Department. When they arrived, they found a 15-year-old boy with a knife standing on the playground. An unconcious woman was lying on the ground next to him suffering from a stab wound to the abdomen.
Officers attempted to resuscitate the victim. She was taken to a nearby hospital, where she died from her injuries. Her identity has not been released.
The teenager was taken into custody.
In a statement, Grand Rapids Police Chief Scott Johnson said it appears the victim and the suspect had arranged to meet. Drugs were found at the scene.
He said the meeting was not related to the elementary school and the public is not in danger.
The stabbing remains under investigation.
