Man at Bloomington bus stop hit by swerving Xcel truck, killed

- A man waiting at a bus stop was struck and killed by an Xcel Energy truck that swerved to avoid a collision with another vehicle at the intersection of 86th Street and Nicollet Avenue in Bloomington, Minn. early Monday morning. The accident happened just before 7 a.m.

According to Bloomington police, initial reports indicated the victim was trapped under a utility pole. The first officers to arrive at the scene found a man trapped under one of the involved vehicles.

The preliminary investigation shows the Xcel truck was southbound on Nicollet Avenue when it swerved to avoid a car that was turning onto westbound 86th Street. The Xcel truck left the roadway and struck the pedestrian and a utility pole on the southwest corner of the intersection.

The victim has not yet been identified.

This incident is being investigated by the Bloomington Police Department Traffic Investigation Unit, with assistance from the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office and Minnesota State Patrol.
