South Fork Crow River hits record high

- Our midweek deluge may not have taken a toll on your house, but don’t let your guard down just yet, especially if you live near the Crow River.  All of the rivers in the Crow watershed on rising quickly and one just set a new record high level.  The South Fork Crow River at Cosmos just hit a level never seen before in that spot…

With much of the area upstream getting 6-9 inches of rain on already fairly saturated soils, the ground just can’t take that much and most of it is now draining into the river causing it to record flood stage just over seventeen and a half feet… about 6 inches above the previous record.  And while the river is cresting here, the same can’t be said for areas downstream with the Mayer and Delano areas expected to hit flood stage or even major flood stage at some point this week…

It’s all thanks to the deluge we had the middle to end of this past week with widespread heavy rain falling across the watershed.  Remember that a watershed is an area that encompasses all of the water that falls inside of it… meaning that any rain that falls inside the Crow watershed will end up in the river.  Check out the watershed area and the rainfall totals from the past few days…
